Don't let the
innocent looks of John & Judy's 51 Vicky deceive you. This girl scoots
down the drag strip right after some impressive burn outs (We have the
videos to prove it. I just got to learn how to get them on the website).
Maybe we can get John to reveal some of his secrets!!
It seems that there a sentimental
story that goes with this car that I'll let John share. Plus we'll find
out that John & Judy will be celebrating a very important
mile stone this November!! Here's John.
The history
on mine is: I fell in love with the car at Famoso when the guy who built
it was over here trying to sell it. He was from
Atascadero. Coincidentally, he comes over every year to our car show as
part of the Golden State group. He had the Plymouth coupe that won the
slow drags. Anyway, I connected the body style with Famoso as I met my
wife there in 1964 and she was driving a ’51 Ford (Canadian) Meteor. It
had low gear blown out from speed-shifting but it ran pretty well in 2
nd
and high until we got it fixed. Anyway, this November, we will celebrate
our 40th anniversary. We brought the car back from Atascadero
on a trailer as I wasn’t sure about driving it back. We unloaded it on a
Saturday in front of the house. My oldest son, Chris, owns a somewhat
hopped-up 2000 Ford Focus. On Sunday morning, I was standing out in the
cul-de-sac, talking to a neighbor. Chris and Judy came out and got in the
Focus and the Vicky respectively. They staged up on the long straightaway
on the south side of Highland High and punched off. Judy lit the tires
and the Focus hooked up and took off. At the time, the Vicky wasn’t
running that great. As they pulled back in, she said to me, “Forget
breakfast, this thing is crapping out at midrange!” Don’t you just love
it!
Here's a couple of pics to prove that
this baby can burn some rubber and it's not "crapping out"!!

John & Judy has just sold their Vicky, but don't fear!
John has something real special cooking of the Chevy P/U
persuasion!!
